No Foul, No Harm
Words and Music by Jenn Lindsay

It's February in New York and I'm looking for you
I'm open to signs and performing lines I think you'd like me to
Tried the bookstore, tried the hymns, tried the church on 6th Avenue
Tried therapy and high school friends and talking straight to you

Some nights I would swear to you that I am all alone
Sometimes your voice is so clear, just like it's on the phone
Sometime seekers use your name to say things that I hate
And plenty of smart people think that you're more gone than great

You know who you are
The world ain't got that far
I still search for your heart
where there's no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm

In search of Zarathustra I found Buddha and Taize
But sitting still is still too hard for a jumping bean like me
Bishop Spong just can't be wrong that all you are is love
But love's got no instructions so that makes it very tough

I'd like to describe you as close as I can get
But the attempt is just like catching water in a net
Seems like you're a force, a feeling, a tide, a clarity
Honey, you're so big and I'm just little lonely me

You know who you are
The world ain't got that far
I still search for your heart
where there's no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm

I don't like how you are different from Brooklyn to midtown
I don't like it when people capitalize your male pronoun
I don't like televangelists that yell from the screen
I don't like folks with dogs or kids who use you to be mean

But then again I don't like it when people say you're dead
The Dawkins/Hitchens/Dennet crowd and their whole line of dread
Cuz in quiet moments, darker days, and confusion
I know there's something bigger than me and it's no delusion

Because I feel you every time I write a smokin' line
Because I sense you with me when I laugh and grieve and whine
Because I read you, cuz I play you, cuz you call on the phone
Because in your sneaky way you walked into my home

You know who you are
The world ain't got that far
I still search for your heart
where there's no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
no wind, no cold, no foul, no harm
